[translation] 「暁の轍」by Ono Daisuke

OnoD wrote the lyrics for this song. ♥ I really wish I knew what his inspiration was.

「暁の轍」/ “Akatsuki no Wadachi” – 小野大輔
“Trails of Dawn” – Ono Daisuke

“The parched, sandy earth / The scorching black sun / A lone stranger traverses / A horizon of burning sands…”

– – –

Note about the song title:「轍」(“wadachi”) are the ruts or furrows left in the ground by the wheels of a vehicle, forming a “trail” of sorts. 「轍」can also mean “precedent”, in which case it is read as “tetsu”. More info here.

Translation:

Even should those misguided days when no light shines
Recur time and time again, I know the sun will rise tomorrow
I travel along the path of dawn

The parched, sandy earth
The scorching black sun
A lone stranger traverses
A horizon of burning sands

That road winds on forever
Remote and without end
An icy headwind
Caresses my cheeks as it breezes by

I’ve heard people call this
A journey without reward
But I have resigned myself
I will not return / I will not look back / I will never forget
That voice or this love

We cannot rewrite the words of myths
But we can spin the tales anew
People meet and then learn of love
Even should those misguided days when no light shines
Recur time and time again, I must keep moving forward
That’s what you taught me…
My memories of you
Will never be lost / can never be lost / will never leave me

Gazing up at the edge of the sky
Like a cloud far off in the distance
The fleeting past begins to vanish
Until it’s nothing but a pale mirage

Amid the crowd of travelers passing by
I brushed against your shoulder
We met by chance and bid farewell, but we swore
To travel across time and meet here once more

Standing atop the promised hill and looking down at the ocean
Watching our sorrow and pain drift away on the water’s surface
Gathering the pieces of a shattered dream in your hand
Hoisting high the ephemeral, delicate, fragile rays of light
And walking amid the darkness
Far beyond the horizon
Wavers the color of dawn

When I grew weary of walking, making my way along that road
I gazed upon a nameless flower and muttered to myself
Even if my destiny should rot and wither someday
I will live for the moment / Let me shine more brightly
Yes, I turn and face the sun

We cannot rewrite the words of myths
But we can spin the tales anew
Playing a song of love, I will live for today
Even if this pain can never be erased / Should those misguided days
Recur time and time again, I know the sun will rise tomorrow
My memories of you
Sparkled in the light of the dawn
They will never be lost / can never be lost / will never leave me
